Our Facilities

Designed to be an open and inviting space, our facility was constructed with state-of-the-art technology to accommodate a variety of disabilities. Our first floor features a large lounge for student veterans to study and interact with each other in a comfortable environment.

The kitchen was constructed to meet or exceed ADA compliance for physical disabilities. In addition, the kitchen is equipped with a projector and screen for teaching student veterans how to create nutritious meals during monthly dinners, as well as to help aid those who are re-learning to cook with a physical injury. Our students have greatly enjoyed using this space for Illini Veteran dinners and as a “refreshment spot” during finals week.

The Center also offers a computer lab for all students registered with our Center, as well as a classroom for large groups, including the transition course (AHS 199) taught by our director, Dr. Nick Osborne.

Our Counseling wing was designed to offer a quiet and private atmosphere for veterans and their families. It includes a visitor’s lounge, equipped with comfortable seating, a TV and DVD player, a sink, and a baby changing station. The wing also includes a group study room for students to gather informally or to conduct group therapy sessions. Finally, we also offer a Child Play Room to observe parent-child interactions, as well as to provide a safe environment for children to wait while their parent(s) receive counseling. Taken together, this wing provides several settings to conduct individual, group, couples, and family counseling and neuropsychological testing.

One of the highlights of our second floor is the gym, which offers a variety of equipment for all types of disabilities. Students who are registered with our Center are able to use this space at their convenience. In addition, physical therapy is offered through the Danville VA so that students do not have to travel frequently to receive this service.

Our second floor also features an Academic and Career Center for Academic Lab and Career Workshops. This space also includes a computer workstation for students who need assistance with choosing and registering for courses and/or applying to jobs or graduate school. We also have a resource library, including information on resume writing, finding the right career, and applying to graduate school.

The twelve residential units are located on the third floor and were created to accommodate a range of disabilities. These suites and bathrooms provide state-of-the-art accessibility features, including a remote-controlled SureHands ceiling lift system in some rooms.
